What we think the therapist is thinking vs what they actually are! Remember finding a therapist is like dating someone you need to feel them out and have a connection or it will not work. It’s trial and error to find the right therapist for you but when you do then you are truly able to work through something of the struggles! You are worth the f;ght! #therapy #therapist #tiktok #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalillness #anxiety #anxietyrelief #depressionhelp #depressionhelp #ptsd #ptsdawareness #gad #mdd #cptsd #ocd #adhd #bpd #bipolar #addict #addiction #recovery #trauma #hope #bamf #dr1ven #dr1ven8 #dr1ventogether #dr1venfamily

I preordered this what felt like a year ago, and now it’s here! I’m excited! Though to be honest my pandemic brain hasn’t been overly into reading but, we shall see. :)

Toxic shame shows up in this duality of believing that we are either above or below others. ⠀ ⠀ When we see ourselves as ‘superhuman’, we often behave as if we were. ⠀ ⠀ As a result, we link our worthiness to our achievements to the point of burnout. We become workaholics, using our career as an excuse to avoid nourishing other parts of our lives that would expose ourselves to the ‘risk’ of vulnerability. ⠀ ⠀ In other cases, we might get addicted to compulsive exercise or constantly deprive ourselves from food to maintain unrealistic body image standards.⠀ ⠀ When we operate from the ‘superhuman’ state, we don’t want to recognise the limitations of our humanity, from our simple need to get enough rest, to not acknowledging our past wounds. This state is also manifested through behaviours such as perfectionism and constant blame of others. ⠀ ⠀ In the ‘less than human’ state, we see ourselves as innately less worthy than others. No matter how big our achievements are or how talented we are, we don’t see them as enough. We always need to do and be more without an end. Failing to do this impossible task, we start giving up. ⠀ ⠀ Believing that we don’t deserve any better, we act out inwards by harming ourselves through substance addiction, continuous self-blame and in worst-case scenarios, this can even lead to suicide. ⠀ ⠀ The paradox in this duality of superhuman and less-than human states is that despite being polar opposites, their extreme versions can have the same negative impact on our physical+mental health. They can both lead to the same harmful destination.⠀ ⠀ How can we start healing from shame? By bringing more consciousness into our lives, slowing down+question the messages we receive from the voice in our head+also from the outside world that demands more+more of us. Nothing that we’ve known so far is necessarily the reality & when we first ‘see’ this for the first time, our path to freedom begins. ⠀ ⠀ If you’re looking for journaling prompts to reflect & imagine what can be possible for you in a life without shame, download a free copy of Your Life by Design Journal (link in bio)⠀ 💜🌹

The importance of safe people in the church and in our world: Safe people are the ones we know can be trusted to turn to, to share our present reality with and be heard, understood and many times nudged in the right direction, which can be pivotal moments in our lives. They’re not controlling or manipulative. They have healthy boundaries and allow for autonomy. Safe people are not trying to push their own agenda in an attempt to make another person more like how they want them to be. They’re not taking on a “fixer” mentality or the total responsibility of someone else’s journey, which usually becomes a sign of codependency; many times, out of their own need to feel significant and valuable through “fixing”. Pre-set agendas usually lead a person to “play God” in the lives of others, trying to control and manipulate their choices and outcomes. This happens often with emotional and/or spiritual abuse. This opposing type of personality can be ego-centric. They’re not trying to help others grow through their own make-up, but in the likeness of themselves. They rigidly project decisions a person should make based on their own experience as if it’s the only right way. A person can usually feel this because it becomes overbearing and they no longer feel the autonomy to make their own choices or choices that fit them or where they are in life. A lot of times a person will be made to feel belittled or like they can’t trust themselves and therefore lose connection from their basic convictions and common-sense wisdom. Safe people want to empower others to be led to make their own healthy choices, which often comes through learning from mistakes as a part of life. They give them the space necessary to grow through their experience. They don’t act as if they’re the sole carrier of the answers for the person in front of them or need to prove themselves as the expert of all things. They understand their limits and are happy to refer to other people or resources that may be more fitting so a person can actually receive effective help. What do you think makes a “safe person”?

*trigger warning - depression A year ago today, I gave up. I didn’t think I was worthy of anything I had, I was so sucked in to my depression that I didn’t know a way out. I had already started therapy at this point but nothing seemed to work and I was drowning. I ended up in A&E severely depressed, confused to why I was like this, self harming, suffering from trauma and suicidal thoughts. That day feels like a lifetime away and I am so happy to say that I am not that person anymore. I am happier than I have ever been and I am so grateful that I have now been given the tools to move forward and have new coping mechanisms that help me see the bigger picture. Most importantly, I reach out if I feel I am struggling. It feels too much of a coincidence to say that my therapy ended today. A year on from feeling the worst I have ever felt in my life. It feels so surreal that the hard work I have put in has paid off and I am here, healthy and well. I encourage anyone going through this right now that it does get better. I saw hope on the other side and I promise that you will too. I am living proof of it. Keep fighting x #mentalhealthawareness #depression #mentalillness #ptsd #trauma #anxiety #positivity #igotthroughit #fighting #imasurvivor #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #ayearon

OCD compulsions are repetitive behaviors that you feel driven to perform. These repetitive behaviors or mental acts are meant to reduce anxiety related to your obsessions or prevent something bad from happening. However, engaging in the compulsions brings no pleasure and may offer only a temporary relief from anxiety. You may make up rules or rituals to follow that help control your anxiety when you're having obsessive thoughts. These compulsions are excessive and often are not realistically related to the problem they're intended to fix. #ocd #anxiety #mentalhealth #depression #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #ptsd #dietsehat #bipolar #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #ocdawareness #adhd #ocdproblems #ocdrecovery #recovery #selflove #bpd #love #selfcare #erp #therapy #mentalhealthmatters #intrusivethoughts #diet #debm #covid #dietmayo #anxietyrelief #langsing #bhfyp
